WECDC

WECDC stands for the West End Community Development Consortium. This is a network of voluntary organisations based in the west end who are working together to look at ways of bringing about more co-ordinated and broad-based community participation in regeneration activities by bringing together existing networks in the inner west and supporting the development of new ones. WECDC is funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.

The Children’s Centre programme is based on the concept that providing integrated education with childcare, family support and health services are key factors in achieving good outcomes for children and parents.

 

NERS - North of England Refugee Service

The North of England Refugee Service was established in 1989. We are an independent and charitable organisation which exists to meet the needs and promote the interests of asylum seekers and refugees who have arrived or have settled in the North of England.

 

Association for Research in the Voluntary and Community

ARVAC (The Association for Research in the Voluntary and Community Sector) was established in 1978. It is a membership organisation and acts as a resource for people interested in research in or on community organisations.

 

CDX - Community Development Exchange

CDX works to ensure that community development is recognised and supported as a powerful way of tackling inequality and achieving social justice. As an organisation with members from across the UK, CDX reflects a diverse range of interests in community development across all sectors and fields.

 

Children North East

Children North East was formed in 1891 as the Poor Children’s Holiday Association, Newcastle was not the vibrant, cosmopolitan city it is today. There was no Millennium Bridge (indeed no Tyne Bridge), no Sage Music Centre and no bustling nightlife on the Quayside or Bigg Market. Although things were beginning to improve, much of the older part of the city was very overcrowded and unsanitary and still the squalid home of the poor.

 

Government Funding

The Voluntary and Community Sector Funding Portal, also known as governmentfunding.org.uk, went live on 29 September 2003. The website has been developed by the Directory of Social Change with initial funding from the Home Office Active Communities Unit, and is now funded by the Office of the Third Sector. DSC is a registered charity which provides a wide variety of information and training for the voluntary and community sector. In line with Recommendation 17 of HM Treasury's 2002 cross-cutting review, the site aims to provide 'a common point of access to Government grant funding for the VCS'.

 

Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service

Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service is an independent non-profit making charitable organisation, managed by an elected voluntary committee. It receives substantial grants from Newcastle City Council and raises a considerable part of its funds from private sources through its own efforts and those of its supporters.

 

Excelsior Academy Newcastle

Excelsior Academy was set up by the Excelsior Academy Trust - sponsor Lord Laidlaw - and Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and opened in September 2008.

 

Newcastle Tenants Federation

The main aim of the Federation is to support and develop representative and democratic tenants and residents groups so that they can play a full part in decisions about their housing and environment.

 

Social Enterprise Magazine

Social Enterprise, now in its sixth year, was the UK’s first monthly magazine devoted to providing accessible, comprehensive news and practical help for everyone interested in social enterprise. It is published by Make A Difference Publishing Ltd, a joint venture between New Start Publishing Ltd and the Community Action Network (CAN).
