Tell I Like It Is

Information about the ‘Tell it Like it Is!’ Youth Conference

Tell it Like it Is!’ is a conference organised by young people with the support of youth workers from Just ‘B’ me and North of England Refugee Service. It is going to be held on 17th April 2009 at Newcastle College and is aimed at young people between 11 to 18 years old.  The aim of the conference is to allow young people an opportunity to tell their story through creative methods such as writing songs or rap lyrics, talking to a video camera, through art and drama. There is the potential to bring together around 100 young people of different ages and backgrounds in a positive and cohesive space.

Information from the young people organising the conference:

‘Tell it Like it Is!’ is a conference organised by young people for young people. The conference will take place on April 17th 2009 at Newcastle College, Trevelyan building (there will be young people helping you with directions). You need to arrive at 10am to register.

In the morning there will be different workshops going on like: rap and lyric writing, drama, radio, urban art, discussion and short story writing.  Each person at the conference will be allowed to do two workshops, most of which will be run by young people.

Free lunch will be provided to everyone.

In the afternoon we have planned a talent show where young people can show their talent through rapping, singing, dancing or a small piece of drama.

There will be a Big brother style diary room running throughout the day, where young people will be filmed to share about any problems they face.

You can come with friends or by yourself. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anyone because everyone is really friendly and you’ll get to meet new people.

If you want to perform in the talent show – please contact us as soon as possible so we know what you want to perform and what equipment you need. We might need to burn your backing track onto a cd. So don’t wait… email us today at tellitlikeitis2009@googlemail.com. You can also become our friend on Facebook (Tellit Likeitis).  See you there!
